Things to See and Do in New Hanover County The WWII battleship, USS North Carolina, is permanently docked in Wilmington's port. Every summer evening, the USS North Carolina puts on "the Immortal Showboat" show, a unique telling of the battleship's history using lights, sounds, visual effects and spoken word.
New Hanover County hosts several festivals throughout the year. Wilmington's Piney Woods Festival provides an outlet for local musicians, storytellers and artisans. Riverfest is held over two days in downtown Wilmington that offers festival goers live entertainment, food, arts and crafts. The Cape Fear Jazz Appreciation Society promotes an appreciation for jazz by putting on several live shows year-round.
